From a project, a space takes shape dedicated to welcome, to hope, to life, to optimism. So then there is still room for feelings, for spirituality, while everything else in the building is nothing. At the center is “the human being”: the aim is to improve people’s lives, making them feel unique and irreplaceable, within a natural and dedicated setting. Human dignity in everyday life and, in particular, in pain, is the greatest reward for an architect. The aim is to go beyond beauty, which, while it “must exist,” should become synonymous with wellbeing. Those who live must be able to marvel, to be amazed at how the rest of the world takes care of them.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03s-02</dc:identifier>
Dante O. Beyond technical requirements and economic imperatives, it entails a moral and political responsibility. In this sense, architecture is nothing less than a philosophy of life.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03s-03</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>50</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>53</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-10-22</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3s</prism:number>

ARCHITECTURE OF MEMORY

This article explores the dialogue between philosophy and architectural conservation, which is important for the preservation of cultural heritage. Philosophical concepts of value, truth and memory are linked to the theory and practice of conservation and architecture in order to shed light on the current crisis of environmental values, resulting from the deterioration of the national conservation system, loss of authenticity, damage to integral value – the memory of the environment and architectural erosion. The community of experts is striving, unsuccessfully, to improve the regulatory framework for conservation and architecture within the context of a ‘facade democracy’. However, a philosophical approach clearly reveals that these efforts are doomed to failure unless the model of society’s general values evolves through a genuinely democratic social order. Only under this condition will architecture be able to realise its full potential as the architecture of memory, playing a unique role within the cultural environment.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03s-04</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>54</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>76</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-10-22</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3s</prism:number>

THE INTERSECTION OF CONTEMPORARY ART AND CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE IN THE ‘AESTHETICS OF PROVOCATION’

The article explores the intersections between contemporary art and contemporary architecture within the framework of the so-called “aesthetics of provocation”. By entering the “expanded field” of art, architecture transcends its traditional functionality. The text analyzes how architectural deconstructivism deconstructs traditional binary oppositions (inside – outside, wall – opening, center – periphery, form – function) and helps dismantle power hierarchies in space. In this way, contemporary architecture acts as a transgression against the established order and asserts itself as a public stage for key debates regarding individual autonomy, ecology, and memory.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03s-05</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>77</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>91</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-10-22</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3s</prism:number>

BUILDING ARCHITECTURAL ENVELOPES AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE INHABITANTS OF THE CONTEMPORARY URBAN ENVIRONMENT

Urbanization over the past several decades has created a number of challenges in both urban planning and social contexts. This paper envisions architecture – precisely the architecture of public buildings, public space, and the public domain – as a stratificational snapshot in the broad daylight of common philosophy, commercial ideology, and social psychology. The paper argues that today’s architecture is in a deep thought crisis due to a lack of awareness of architectural theory and examines, in real time, these conditions and the circumstances that led to this state. At the same time, it tries to suggest hypothetical micro-models of saving architecture from its mass self, in its unintentional voids and cracks, as well as in peripheral theory spaces of architecture.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03s-07</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>104</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>114</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-10-22</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3s</prism:number>

SUSTAINABLE AND SMART CITIES. The text examines the transformations taking place in the field of architectural creation. Transformations resulting from commercialization, the pressure for quick financial profit, the loss of identity and historical memory, the advent of digitalization, and the new AI world. The philosophy of the “permanent present” – architecture, trivialized and mass-produced for the “here” and “now” – is losing its spatial and temporal bearings. Are there any possible alternatives? Contemporary discussions still revolve around questions such as to whom this concept belongs, where it begins and ends, and how its boundaries with the private sphere are to be determined. The origins of these debates can be traced back to the distinct separation between the public and private realms in the city-states of Ancient Greece. In the modern context, the blurring of boundaries between the public and private spheres has given rise to issues such as alienation, loneliness, and reification (Verdinglichung) in individuals. The distinction between “public” and “private” finds its roots in the structure of the Greek polis. Free citizens divided their lives between these two spheres. While they gathered in public spaces such as the agora – marketplaces where civic issues were discussed – as well as in courts, battlefields, and sites of communal activity, they returned to their private lives, confined to the household, when they withdrew from these areas. This division was grounded in the principle that the head of the household would not carry private matters into the public sphere, with privacy and domesticity strictly confined to the household. Emotions such as modesty, shame, and reserve were considered intrinsic to the private sphere, whereas, in entering the public sphere, the individual would shed these qualities and seek recognition, competition.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03-02</dc:identifier>

<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>239</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>249</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-09-28</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3</prism:number>

CASSIRER’S DYNAMIC FORMS: TOWARDS ANALYZING TRANSFORMATIONS IN MARITSA IZTOK

This article examines and tests the analytical potential of dynamic forms, considered through the distinction between forma formata and forma formans in the work of Ernst Cassirer. This conceptual pair is applied to the problem of ongoing transformations in the Maritsa Iztok (Maritsa East) coal-mining region in Bulgaria (2024 – 2026). The analysis focuses on the tension between the “carbon past” as a stagnant form (forma formata) and the innovative impulse as a will to form (forma formans) in the course of these transformations. Examples are identified both of the functioning of forma formata in established practices and of breakthroughs of forma formans (the will to form) through civic initiatives (such as air-quality monitoring) and through the introduction of visionary educational strategies (including AI technologies).

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03-03</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>250</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>261</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-09-28</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3</prism:number>

EUTHANASIA BETWEEN AUTONOMY, DIGNITY, AND THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF LIFE: CAN THE RIGHT TO LIFE BE TRANSFORMED INTO A RIGHT TO DIE?

The right to life is a basic human right and the foundation for the protection of all other rights and freedoms. In this context, euthanasia opens up complex legal, ethical, philosophical and psychological dilemmas, especially in the relationship between the patient’s autonomy and the state’s obligation to protect life. Although the subject of the paper is primarily euthanasia, the analysis also includes assisted suicide to the extent that it is necessary for comparative legal and normative consideration of this issue. The paper examines the question of whether the right to life can be derived from the so-called the right to die. It starts from the position that the right to life cannot be transformed into the right to die, but that the patient’s autonomy can only be recognized within strictly limited legal frameworks. The analysis includes international standards for the protection of human rights, the practice of the European Court of Human Rights and comparative legal solutions in the field of euthanasia and assisted suicide. A special contribution of the paper is reflected in the consideration of psychological factors that can affect the ability to make an autonomous decision, including the ability to reason, hopelessness and fluctuation of will.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03-04</dc:identifier>

<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>262</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>274</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-09-28</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3</prism:number>

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND THE ASSUMPTIVE WORLDS OF THE SELF

The intersection of assumptive worlds and artificial intelligence (AI) presents a dynamic landscape where human cognition and digital technologies converge. The assumptive worlds, as defined in psychological theories, reflect the stable set of beliefs and mental schemas which allow individuals to organize their experiences according to relatively-enduring expectations about the reality. Conversely, AI technologies increasingly influence and alter these belief systems by generating information and perspectives that users may uncritically adopt, thus reshaping their assumptive worlds. Thus, it is worthy to examine how AI can simultaneously pose challenges and offer opportunities for reshaping assumptive worlds while adhering to ethical standards (Firnando & Wahyudi, 2024; Borgwardt et al., 2019).

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03-05</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>275</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>283</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-09-28</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3</prism:number>

THE DIGITAL CENTAUR. The transhumanist horizon imagines a functional fusion: the human teaches the machine what is embodied life (sentience, experience, meaning), while the machine cognitively extends the human brain and intelligence. Yet the promise of augmentation conceals a philosophical problem of measure and normality whether the human nervous system, moral agency, and epistemic formation can remain coherent when information is “poured” directly into the brain, when attention is governed by algorithmic environments and curation, and when new intelligent agents increasingly occupy almost all social public and private fields. The analysis integrates classical limits of cognitive capacity, the two-systems model of thinking (fast and slow by Kahneman and Tversky), the extended mind thesis, and contemporary neuroethical frameworks, and concludes with a thesis: the future of the human will not be decided by capability alone, but by the normative architecture through which the notion of hybrid (human and AI merging in any kind of forms) is constituted.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-03-06</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>284</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>289</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-09-28</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>3</prism:number>

DIGITAL ASPECTS OF MODERN EDUCATION REALITIES: AN ATTEMPT OF PROFILING THE BULGARIAN INTERNET USERS

The aim of the article is to show the role of digital skills of people of different ages as a consequence of the processes of digitalization in Bulgarian society. Different dimensions of digitalization, attitudes towards online learning and levels of positive attitudes towards it are analysed. Trust in Internet content is monitored, as well as cases of cyberbullying as consequences of digitalization and the presence of digital skills. The methodology is based on an online survey conducted by the authors of the article among the Bulgarian population in 2023. The main thesis is that the spirit cannot be adequately thought of as a substantial reality, but should be understood as a dynamic field of virtual possibilities that are actualized through symbolic and linguistic structures. In this context, metaphor is considered not simply as a rhetorical figure, but as an ontological mediator between the virtual and the actual. Through critical analysis, it is shown that virtualistic metaphysics offers a radical rethinking of ontology, transforming it into a theory of possibility and process.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-02-04</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>159</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>174</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-08-07</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>2</prism:number>

EPISTEMIC STIGMERGY: NATURAL VS. It analyzes this trend from the perspective of Baudrillard’s concept of hyperreality, emphasizing the replacement of the real with the signs of the real and, consequently, the trivialization of the distinction between lie and truth, between real and imaginary. In such a context, various modes of AI anthropologisation are examined – specific concepts describing conditions of AI, images of models with their own biographies on social networks, virtual partners who evoke feelings in their creators and prompt them to certain actions. The study puts forward the hypothesis that the process of AI anthropologisation runs parallel to that of human machinization. Examples of similar machinization are given, focusing mainly on the weakening of some human cognitive abilities and the development of others based on the machine model, in which, however, algorithms perform far better. The question of the erosion of human relationships in this situation is raised, and consequently – of the beginnings of totalitarian thinking, of destructive and authoritarian behavior, which isolation and the feeling of insecurity provoke.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-02-06</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>186</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>196</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-08-07</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>2</prism:number>

POST-TRUTH AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: FROM EMOTIONAL NARRATIVES TO SYNTHETIC AUTHENTICITY

This article examines post-truth as a cultural regime of public sphere emerging at the intersection between the attention economy and platform logic. What is even more, traces of this distinction can be found also in the framework through which Kant develops his practical philosophy. This paper argues that with his conception of the “thing-in-itself” Kant firmly stands within – and even reinforces some aspect of – a certain philosophical tradition; a tradition that most likely begins with Parmenides and is exemplarily continued by Plato. This tradition is characterized by its disregard for, first, the notion of (shared) lifeworld practice and, second, the natural intuitions that arise from it (the so-called “common sense”). Further evidence to support this stance could be found in the semantic turn in philosophical discourse initiated by Frege. The analysis of our linguistic relation to the world and the intentions that make it comprehensible reveals the untenability of Kant’s thesis that the genuine objects of our knowledge are “appearances,” while “things-in-themselves” remain fundamentally inaccessible to us.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-01-02</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>9</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>21</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-03-30</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>1</prism:number>

In Religion within the Limits of Reason Itself, Kant describes and criticizes two illusions of piety: the illusion of superstition and the illusion of selfdeception. According to him, both illusions hinder the pious life prescribed by historical religions, which in them is essentially impossible in its true form. Authentic religiosity for him coincides with authentic morality exercised by free will in the light of practical reason. One can also speak of illusoriness in religious experience from the perspective of Husserl’s phenomenology. There, illusoriness would arise if religious dogmatics and ritualism were to appear as religious experience. The founder of phenomenology claims that authentic religious experience is possible, and, moreover, possessing all the attributes required by the concept of “experience”. Necessity is conceived as a primordial modal status – what must be the case independently of temporal becoming, historical contingency, or subjective mediation. This paper challenges that assumption by advancing a temporal and non-totalizing conception of necessity, according to which necessity is not given in advance but is retroactively constituted through processes marked by contradiction. Drawing on Kant, Hegel, Lacan, and Badiou, the paper argues that necessity emerges after time – as the outcome of temporal articulation rather than its precondition. Kant’s schematism already discloses the dependence of necessity on temporal synthesis, even as it strives to preserve modal closure. Hegel radicalizes this insight by reconceiving necessity as the result of contradictory becoming, not its negation. Lacan introduces a non-totalizing logic in which necessity appears as a retroactive inscription within the symbolic order. Finally, Badiou reformulates necessity in terms of evental fidelity, where what “must have been” is established only through a contingent break within a situation. Across these trajectories, necessity is understood as a belated effect of temporal and subjective processes rather than a foundational modal given.

<dc:identifier>doi:10.53656/phil2026-01-04</dc:identifier>
<prism:journalTitle>Философия</prism:journalTitle><prism:startingPage>31</prism:startingPage><prism:endingPage>46</prism:endingPage><prism:publicationDate>2026-03-30</prism:publicationDate>
<prism:volume>35</prism:volume><prism:number>1</prism:number>
